For our latest TRIQS City Spotlight, we’re talking about Sheffield and the most exciting construction developments happening in the city!
Sheffield is currently undergoing various regeneration projects, in areas from housing to leisure!
Sheffield announced this November that their exciting plans for Parkwood Springs had been awarded more than £19m as part of the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
This area, which has been under-utilised for more than a decade, will be transformed with a Country Park for the city, and will create a regional leisure development for the communities closest to the area.
Earlier this year, the grade II listed Cole Brothers building, the former home of John Lewis, was announced to be transformed into offices, shops and cafes, with ambitions to be completed within the next 3 years.
Another exciting construction project in Sheffield is that of a historic building in the Burngreave area, which will become the home of youth development charity Endeavour.
This will involve improving the building’s carbon footprint, making it more accessible for disabled users, and ensure its long-term viability as a place for education and youth provision. Construction began in September 2023, with aims for completion by the first quarter of 2024.
In sustainable project news, The Hive at Kelham Island will be a net zero building including 100 co-living studios with a focus on curated community living style.
And overlooking Peace Gardens, 190 Norfolk Street is another net carbon zero scheme, which will be a six-storey office development, as well as providing space for retail and active space.
Other upcoming projects include the £20m transformation of the former Castle Market site, which will expose part of the River Sheaf, and create new events and arts spaces, as well as the West Bar Square development, which will see the addition of 368 apartments, and leisure, retail and office spaces to create “an exciting new neighbourhood”.
Sheffield isn’t the only part of South Yorkshire undergoing exciting developments – nearby in Rotherham, work has begun on a £32m town centre development!
This includes a new library for the town, as well as refurbished indoor and covered market, designed for “preserving the heritage of [the] town while embracing a dynamic future.”
This is set to be the first steps in a transformative project for Rotherham.
