TRIQS City Spotlight: Derby

For our first TRIQS City Spotlight of 2024, we’re talking about Derby, including their big plans for the regeneration of several city centre sites.

Derby City Council will be collaborating with Vinci Developments UK and Ion Developments, and initial plans include a revitalised cultural quarter, which will feature leisure, community and commercial facilities, connected to a new business and residential district. This will incorporate the Bold Lane area and Northern Quarter.

The former site of Assembly Rooms will become a new cultural, commercial and creative public space, whilst the Market Place will become a focal point for the city of Derby with improved green spaces (which is also an overall aim of the masterplan).

The city is making moves to more eco-friendly and accessible initiatives – work began in 2023 to create new cycle lanes and footways on key routes, including between the railway station and city centre. Cyclist crossing facilities have also been a priority in this.

Another exciting regeneration project is Castleward, which is set to enter phase 4 of development in spring. Formerly the site of Derbyshire County Transport, this project will see 800 new homes (including affordable housing), green spaces, a new boulevard and retail units.

Other key developments that have caught our eye include the University of Derby’s new business school on Agard Street, which is scheduled for opening this year and will be the study base for more than 6000 students by 2030, and the Becketwell regeneration, which will see the delivery of a 3500 capacity performance venue for the city centre.

This is just a snapshot of the Derby construction projects that we are excited about, especially in their contributions towards growth for the year; to see more of our City Spotlight series, head here.
