Here at TRIQS, we regularly follow the latest projects in construction, and so our City Spotlight highlights the best of these building and QS developments across the UK.
For this edition, we will be discussing Cardiff’s best construction projects, following news that 3 major projects have been moved forward by Cardiff City Council.
This includes the development of new council offices for the Welsh capital; as of yet, it has not been decided whether the existing premises will be refurbished or a new, smaller building will be created, but either way the carbon impact will be minimised.
Atlantic Wharf has been earmarked as the preferred option to potentially build a new County Hall. This area is currently under transformation, with the new Cardiff Bay Arena set to open in 2024, and more than 1000 homes, entertainment and cultural attractions, hotels, offices and a public square planned for the next few years.
An upgrade to Pentwyn Leisure Centre has also been planned, with a new 20-metre pool, gym, 3G sports pitch and cafeteria. The pool will be heated by a ground source heat pump, and the roof will be fitted with solar panels.
It was reported as well that the premises for Willows High School will be rebuilt; the contract for this was awarded to Morgan Sindall Construction. Work is set to begin in autumn, and will play a huge role in the council’s investment into the next generation.
The eagerly anticipated Cardiff Bus Interchange will open in 2023; the city has been without its bus station in 2015, but Transport For Wales have anticipated completion this summer. This will also be home to more residential flats and offices.
